Purpose & Objective of Position

This internship will provide exposure to delivering software in a professional environment. We use an agile software delivery methodology, which is becoming mainstream but is not normally taught in university. We are working with cutting-edge technologies on a cloud-based application, solving an interesting business problem involving event stream processing and machine learning.

Expectations & Tasks

The software developer intern will work alongside our engineering, participating in the full product delivery lifecycle from taking in requirements in the form of user stories, designing a software solution, implementing code, and delivering it from staging into production.

Skills / Competencies

Aptitude with core Java libraries

Educational Requirements

Prior computer science or STEM coursework that involves coding as part of the curriculum

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with and interest in some or all of the following concepts:
    • cloud-based computing
    • distributed computing concerns like immutability and deadlocking
    • RESTful web services
    • event stream processing
    • data mining
    • data analytics
  • Ability to quickly learn new libraries and frameworks
  • Inquisitive nature
