The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is currently seeking an innovative problem solver to fill the role of an-entry level Software Developer. Position Summary: As an entry-level software developer, you will work as part of a team and participate in all phases of the design, development and maintenance of systems that support Wisconsin's workforce. You will assume responsibility for management of low-complexity less critical applications and assist in managing more complex, more critical applications.Special Notes:Due to the nature of this position, a criminal background check may be required prior to appointment.Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
Veterans are encouraged to apply.Qualifications:Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Academic preparation in information technology OR experience in systems development (including systems design, development, testing and implementation).

  • Training or experience using programming languages, including at least one of the following two categories:

  • Web development languages and technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Object-oriented programming languages such as c#, vb.net, java, or c++

  • Training or experience with relational databases.

  • Experience working with a team on a project.

  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
Well-qualified applicants will also have:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology.

  • Training or experience using development tools, including one of the following two technology stacks:

  • jQuery, ASP.NET MVC, and c#.

  • WinForms or WPF.

  • Experience working directly with business contacts to develop an understanding of business requirements.

  • Experience working in an agile development environment.

Starting salary is between $43,284 and $68,244 per year depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule-range for this position is 07-35. A 12-month probationary period will be required. Pay for current state employees will be determined in accordance with the Compensation Plan.
